- Think about waste
generation when you start a project. This is the ideal time to make
changes that will reduce waste and save money.
- Consider using
reusable, launderable items such as rags, wipes, or personal protective
equipment rather than disposables.
- Keep your work
areas clean and neat to prevent spills and accidents
- Purchase only
what you really need.
- Seek other users
for excess chemicals or materials.
- Conserve energy
by turning lights off when not in use. Turn off your computer at night.
Do you need to keep your printer on all the time?
- Use electronic
mail, instead of paper, to communicate when possible. Don't print
e-mail. Reduce distribution lists. Review and edit drafts of documents
electronically.
- Route memos.
Print and copy on both sides of a piece of paper.
- Identify new
ways of working that reduce or stop waste generation. Ask yourself
"why??" at each step of work processes. Perhaps some steps are redundant
or can be combined.
